Are you sure that you always close the file properly and give MacOS and the hardware sufficient time to update the drive before terminating OpenOffice or shutting off the computer or the drive? The easiest way to remove the lock file is to open the file on A again and use File → Close. When you open the file on B, OpenOffice sees A's lock file and only gives you read permission. Apparently the file is (sometimes) not being closed properly on A, and A's lock file remains on that hard drive.
